Pools can be unpredictable when it comes to maintenance. Whether you’re in the market for a pool or you’re just starting to get your feet wet with your latest investment, proper maintenance can feel intimidating. Minor maintenance is completely doable for a novice, but we recommend consulting a professional for any serious projects. There are some weekly and monthly maintenance chores that need to be tended to. Here’s our best advice to efficiently get the job done:

Skimmer Net

Starting small means only skimming the surface…literally. Break out your skimmer net to graze the top of the water and remove unwanted debris.

Water Circulation

You should run the pump for approximately eight to 12 hours per day. This doesn’t require much handy work but definitely requires making a schedule and monitoring the progress. Maintaining proper water circulation prevents bigger problems arising, like algae growth and bacteria build-up. It’s a good idea to run the pump during the day while chemicals are added.

Pool Chemicals

We can’t stress enough how important it is to protect yourself before pouring chemicals into the pool. You need to wear protective long sleeves, gloves and goggles. This is important because it’s extremely dangerous to be in direct contact with the chemicals. Chemicals are needed for pool maintenance because it keeps the pool from growing bacteria or getting cloudy.

Shock Treatments

An integral part of keeping a clean pool is to routinely implement shock treatments. This may sound terrifying if it’s your first time, but we promise it’s a common tactic that’s simple to master. When there’s excess chlorine in the pool, it’s necessary to send out a shock to process the excess chlorine.

Pool Vacuum

A pool vacuum allows for cleaning in the crevasses that you can’t reach. An automatic pool vacuum runs when you want it to and saves you a headache and time of doing it yourself. Vacuuming your pool is a simple task that’s hands-free and practical. Clean pool with nearly no work? Sign us up.
